Well the sun came up and I am still breathing, so I guess that means our good ole Mayan friends were wrong. I don’t know about you, but I am pretty excited that that’s the case. Today’s a great day to be alive and the future looks bright for all of us.
As we move full force into the Christmas Holiday today many of you, including myself, will begin taking time off of work, traveling and finishing up last minute present purchases. It’s gonna be really easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle from here on out. Last minute pictures. parties and packages will no doubt stress some of you out. Kids will be home and begging to open just one present, the ETA of your in-laws is getting closer and closer by the second and you will no doubt have forgotten to pick up at least on present that somehow never made it on your list.
If we are not careful these stresses could alter our attitude and skew our thinking. Christmas could slide by and in our haste we could miss out on what could be a once in a lifetime memory or a “never gonna happen again” type opportunity for growth or reconciliation.
So with that said, this morning I want to challenge everyone to take five minutes to yourself. Focus your mind on all the incredible gifts that God has blessed you and your family with this year. Embrace His blessings, His love and His sacrifice for you. In this moment, make a vow that over the next five days, that no matter what happens, that you will hold fast to an attitude of gratitude. That you will not let what can be the mess of Christmas take away from the message of Christmas. Take the time to write these vows down. Putting your thoughts to paper is the action that gives roots to your promises. This exercise will help you stay focused and grateful throughout this holiday.
Join me as I write down the five vows I am making for this Christmas holiday. (My Christmas Gratitude List)
1. That I will take the time to purposefully acknowledge to my children the true meaning behind Christmas.
2. That I will bless someone with a gift that stretches my faith and dependence on God
3. That I will not allow the stress of this holiday to steal my joy.
4. That I will be grateful to have people to spend Christmas with, not bitter about who I don’t have to spend it with it.
5. That in all things I will exude gratefulness, joy and passion to all I come in contact with.
