We all know and love this famous chapter in the book of Psalm. We’ve seen it hung in our houses and churches for all of our lives. But how well do you know it? Have you ever really looked closely at each verse? Well today as you start your day, I want to draw you to a portion of this song that you may have overlooked. A verse you read in church growing up and maybe even were forced to memorize as I was in Bible Drill. (Yes, I was in bible drill and yes, I was good at it)
The sentence to take note of is bolded below. Read it now….
For HIS namesake….. That is the reasoning God gives for making us lie down in the pastures, leading us beside the still waters, restoring us, guiding us, renewing us….and yes loving us.
Make no mistake about it, what He has planned for you today is and was all created to glorify His name. Not yours, nor mine.
Now, this isn’t to say that you or I are insignificant and that God doesn’t orchestrate events in our lives to bring us peace, joy or happiness. It’s just to say, that in the end what God is doing in and through us is ultimately for His glory. Not yours. Not mine.
I think if we can keep that thought in our minds, it will help us all stay more grounded and reliant on the one true God of the universe as we go about our day.
Love you all, Fight the good Fight!
Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
