A few weeks back I sat down with Mr. Dub Ross, the owner and founder of Dub Ross Company, INC . We talked business, personal development and Hope is Alive Ministries.  Mr. Ross is 87 years young and still works 50+ hours a week, travels often to personally visit clients and goes to church every Sunday with his wife Dorothy. For over an hour Mr. Ross kindly shared with me his story. How he had gotten into business, the jobs he had held and how he taken the leap of faith to start his own company back in 1971. For all of his success the past 50 years, he was humble, polite and gave all the glory to God. It was one of the most impactful meetings I’ve ever had. I came away in awe of his consistency and his drive for success.
During this awesome conversation I asked him what his keys to success were. What he told me was insightful I figured I’d share them with you along with some of my notes from the conversation. But before I do let me just tell you this. It’s rare you come across someone who you want to just record everything they say so you don’t ever forget it. It’s like pure gold coming out of their mouth with each word. Mr. Ross is that man. Soak in this wisdom. Apply it to your life today. And then get ready, because your life will soon be changing!
Mr. Dub Ross’s Keys to Success
1. Walk, Talk & Dress for Success You are always representing yourself and your company. Make sure your representing them in the very best way. Both at work and in your personal life.
2. Nothing is ImpossibleThere is nothing I have come across that I haven’t believed I could accomplish. Don’t let fear get in the way of your dreams.
3. Believe in your Product If you don’t believe in what you are selling or what you are representing your customers won’t either. And they can quickly tell how confident you are in what you’re saying. Know your product and believe strongly in it. If its not believe able, get something better.
4. Drop your PridePride is the biggest thing that gets in the way of someone’s ability to grow professionally.Pride doesn’t get you anywhere. You must be willing to lose your ego and do what it takes to get the job done, ethically of course.
5. Exercise – Every day, for decades I’ve gotten up early to run. I’ve ran the same route every day for many years. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten a little slower and the route has gotten a bit shorter. But I still exercise just about every day and so should you.
6. Have a strong Mental BeliefYou must believe in yourself and your ability. It’s gotta be strong enough to not let any doubts stick around for too long.
7. Make one extra call a dayWhen you think you are done for the day, pick up the phone one more time. In the long run this will payoff in a HUGE way! (This is one of my personal favs, I implemented it immediately)
8. Have a plan for every dayIf you don’t know what you need to accomplish for the day then how do you know if your day has been successful or not? For me, each day I come in with a game plan, I know who I need to call, what I need to do and I’m always thinking about the next day.
9. Give God all the GloryIn the end, God has given me so much. He’s blessed our business and our family. So in all of my dealings with my employees and supporters we always give God all the glory, because without Him we have nothing.
