Saying – (say-ing) Noun…… a frequently offered piece of advice or information, or a frequently heard reflection on the way things are…
I love the last part of the definition of the word “saying”…. a reflection on the way things are. Just like the saying uttered by my friend Mr. Robertson in the picture above. Now that one is kinda quirky, but at least there’s some honesty to it.
That is exactly what these 8 “sayings” embody. They are time tested phrases that “honestly” represent life. Collections of words that mean something and that are worth applying to your life or passing along to others.
Sayings like these are what we should be telling our kids and grand-kids. They are full of good lessons and tend to stay with you for a while.
Today I challenge you to read through these 8 sayings and pick one that you will dwell on over the weekend. Christmas is coming, so I am sure you will be busy, so you may want to write it down or type it into your phone. Whatever you do, make sure you read it or think about it 3 times over the weekend.

  1. Today & everyday, deliver more than you are getting paid to do.
  2. Always reward your long hours of labor and toil in the very best way, surrounded by your family.
  3. Build your day on a foundation of pleasant thoughts.
  4. Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down in life, don’t look back too long.
  5. Guard your fragile life with care. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it into pieces.
  6. Search for the seed of good in every adversity.
  7. Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger as if they were going to die at midnight.
  8. Never skimp on that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best you can do.

Number 8 is my favorite. After I first read it, I begin running into all kinds of opportunities to put into practice. At first it just crosses through your mind, but then over time you begin to start acting on it and the next thing you know you can’t help but leave everyone you meet with that soft word of praise or thanks.
That’s the trick about sayings like these. They stay with you and eventually, with a little action on your part, they begin to change your life.
So pick one today. Read through it a few times and see what happens…
